The three-day training program, held at the Government House in Gusau, was designed to equip women with the necessary skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world. In his keynote address, the NCC's Executive Vice Chairman emphasized the importance of closing the digital gap, citing statistics that only 30% of women in Nigeria possess basic digital skills, compared to over 50% of men.
The program aligns with the federal government's efforts to strengthen the digital economy. The Head of Digital Skills and Services at NCC encouraged participants to seize the opportunities presented by digital literacy and overcome any barriers that may exist.
The training program received support from the Zamfara State government and other partners. Each participant received an android smartphone and a certificate of attendance, and were trained in critical areas such as:
- Cybersecurity
- Content creation
- Digital marketing
The initiative was widely praised by participants, who described the experience as eye-opening and expressed enthusiasm for applying their new skills to build careers and grow small businesses.
The NCC believes that such initiatives will empower women in rural areas with the tools necessary to succeed in an increasingly digital Nigeria, ultimately contributing to inclusive growth in the sector.
