The project focuses on creating local peace committees to resolve disputes peacefully, restoring livelihoods through skills training, farming support, and small businesses. It targets displaced persons, returnees, and host communities across 10 local government areas.
The IOM is collaborating with the European Union (EU), Mercy Corps, and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) to implement the project. The EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Amb. Gautier Migno, assured continued EU support for Nigeria's sustainability and development programs.
Migno emphasized the importance of involving women and people with disabilities in peace-building processes. Governor Dikko Radda welcomed the initiative, describing it as a new era of hope and development for the state.
The project aims to benefit 95,000 persons across eight local government areas in Katsina and two in Zamfara. Radda noted that addressing the crisis requires great commitment from the government and other stakeholders, and commended the EU for the project aimed at addressing the problem.
