The Federal Government has officially commenced the rollout of paperless governance across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) through the newly developed 1Government Cloud platform, spearheaded by Galaxy Backbone Limited under the Sovereign Digitalisation Programme.
Pioneer adopters include the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; Solid Minerals; Steel Development; Foreign Affairs; Justice; Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria; and Intergovernmental Affairs.
According to the Programme Director, Mr. Wumi Oghoetuoma, the move is aimed at cutting costs, eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks, and ensuring transparency in service delivery. “The paperless initiative will drastically reduce spending on printing, file storage, and distribution while enhancing efficiency and accountability,” he said.
The project, backed by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, is expected to fully digitise civil service operations by December 2025.
Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described it as a “strategic shift” towards faster decision-making, secure documentation, and improved citizen services.
The 1Gov Cloud comes with digital tools such as GovDrive (encrypted file management), GovECMS (workflow automation), GovMail (secure communication), GovE-Sign (electronic approvals), GovConference (virtual meetings), and GovOTP (authentication).
With this bold step, Nigeria joins the ranks of countries embracing smart government solutions, setting the stage for a fully digital economy and a sovereign, paperless public sector.
