Resident doctors working in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed gratitude to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for approving the payment of overdue hazard allowances and a wage award. The doctors, under the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory (ARD-FCTA), described the move as a significant step toward addressing their welfare concerns.
In a letter dated January 15, 2026, and signed by their President, Dr. George Ebong, and General Secretary, Dr. Yusuf Israel Lissa, the association praised Wike’s leadership, calling the payments a demonstration of fairness and recognition of their sacrifices. The 13 months’ hazard allowance arrears and one-month wage award, they noted, have uplifted morale and reinforced trust in the FCT Administration’s commitment to healthcare workers.
The doctors also acknowledged the efforts of other key officials, including the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud; the Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan; and other senior administrators who facilitated the payments. They reaffirmed their willingness to collaborate with the government to improve healthcare services in the territory.
The statement, issued by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, highlighted the doctors’ appreciation and their call for continued engagement to strengthen the health sector.
