Kano politics was jolted today, Friday as a high-level caucus meeting convened by Senator Dr. Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso, National Leader of the NNPP, ended in embarrassment following a mass boycott by key party actors.
The meeting aimed to contain the escalating crisis surrounding Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's reported defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) .
Governor Yusuf's move has shaken the Kwankwasiyya movement, exposing deep fractures within the NNPP in Kano State.
Virtually all invited stakeholders, including senators, representatives, and party executives, stayed away from the meeting, dealing a public blow to Kwankwaso's influence.
Meanwhile, NNPP powerbrokers are paying solidarity visits to the Acting Chairman, Hon. Imam Zubairu, believed to back Governor Yusuf. This shift signals a change in the party's center of gravity.
An APC chieftain expressed excitement over Yusuf's expected defection, stating APC stakeholders are ready to support him to move Kano forward.
However, the same source emphasized APC doesn't need Kwankwaso, saying party leaders would leave if he joins.
