According to an EFCC insider, the probe will include both domestic and international inquiries, with plans to contact the Swiss school where Ahmed’s children are reportedly enrolled. Dangote’s petition claims that the funds used for these expenses could not have come from Ahmed’s legitimate income as a public official.
The issue first emerged in December 2025 when Dangote filed a complaint with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), accusing Ahmed of violating ethical codes for public officers. However, on January 5, 2026, Dangote withdrew the petition through his legal team. Despite this, the ICPC stated it would continue its review under legal provisions allowing it to pursue corruption cases once reported.
The matter regained attention in July 2026 when the Dangote Group announced that a new petition had been sent to the EFCC, urging a detailed investigation. A senior EFCC official confirmed that preliminary work had begun, including outreach to organizations and institutions named in the petition to gather evidence. The official emphasized that Ahmed had not yet been summoned, as the agency follows protocol by first verifying claims through documentation and third-party responses before confronting the accused.
International cooperation may be necessary to validate certain allegations, including correspondence with the Swiss school. The EFCC stressed that inviting Ahmed for questioning would only occur after completing these initial steps.
