According to an eyewitness, Sambo Balarabe, the fire was first noticed by a passing motorcycle rider who saw thick smoke rising from the roof of the warehouse around eight o'clock in the evening. The rider immediately alerted nearby residents, who then called the fire service.
The firefighters arrived swiftly, even before the warehouse owner could get to the scene. To help contain the blaze, locals had to break open the warehouse doors to allow the firefighters inside.
Abdullahi Jibo, the Executive Director of the Zamfara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident in an official statement. He mentioned that the agency received an emergency call about the fire at a business premises near Command Secondary School in Barakallahu.
Upon arrival, the team found the shop—occupied by Shafa’atu Sulaiman—completely engulfed in flames. Investigations later revealed that the fire was caused by an electrical surge.
Fortunately, no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported. However, all goods inside the shop were completely destroyed, resulting in a total loss of fifteen million naira.
