The Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC), representing the workers, has instructed all employees under the FCTA to stop work immediately. The strike will impact all offices, departments, agencies, area councils, and government bodies under the FCTA.
JUAC explained that the strike became necessary because the FCTA management did not respond to a seven-day warning issued earlier. The workers have been dealing with multiple unresolved issues, such as unpaid wage awards, overdue promotion payments, delays in promotions, and the extended service of retired directors and permanent secretaries.
Additional complaints include the alleged failure to remit pension and National Housing Fund deductions, poor workplace conditions, harassment of staff, and general disregard for workers' welfare.
The unions also raised concerns about the high failure rate in the 2024 promotion exams, where nearly 77.5% of candidates reportedly did not pass.
The strike notice was signed by the JUAC Secretary, who called on all FCT workers to fully support the action until their demands are addressed.
At the time of reporting, the FCTA had not yet issued any official statement regarding the strike.
