A group of soldiers from Operation FANSAN YAMMA showed great courage and skill when they were attacked by terrorists on the Bingi–Kekun Waje-Gusau Road in Zamfara State. This happened on January 19, 2026, after the troops had been carrying out successful missions in the area from January 17 to 19.
During their earlier operations in Birnin Magaji and Anka, the soldiers worked with special strike teams to conduct raids and patrols. They caught three suspects named Isiya Kwakwatawa, Ibrahim Dan Musulu, and Makau Lamba Goma. They also killed four terrorists and made others run away into the forest. The troops found weapons including a PKT machine gun, five AK-47 rifles, three AK-47 magazines, bullets, radios, and three motorcycles.
While the soldiers were returning from these missions and responding to a call for help about another terrorist attack, they were ambushed near Gidan Wagni on their way to Kekun Waje. Even though the attack was sudden, the troops fought back bravely and stopped the terrorists from hurting nearby villages. Sadly, five soldiers and one police officer died in this fight.
When leaders heard about the attack, they quickly sent more soldiers from nearby bases to help. A senior officer personally led this backup team, showing how serious they were about protecting the area. Together, they fought back strongly and forced the terrorists to retreat. Reports suggest that two well-known terrorist leaders, JANWUYA and ALHAJI BELLO, were badly hurt in this fight, and other attackers ran away with gunshot wounds. Soldiers and local volunteers continued to chase the fleeing terrorimsts.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has told people that they have control of the situation and will keep working to protect citizens and fight against terrorists. A senior officer expressed sadness about the soldiers who died but praised all the troops for their bravery. He also asked people to stay calm and keep helping security forces by sharing useful information when they can. The military says they will keep working hard to bring peace to the region.
