In a statement by labour activists and workers’ groups, they demanded immediate payment of outstanding ₦105,000 wage awards, promotion arrears, and long-overdue peculiar allowances, which they say have worsened hardships for civil servants.
The workers described reports of the government spending nearly ₦250 billion on political defections as “provocative and insensitive,” especially amid rising inflation and economic struggles.
Many employees, they noted, are still awaiting promotion arrears and agreed wage adjustments meant to offset fuel subsidy removal effects.
They warned that neglecting workers’ welfare risks escalating discontent in the civil service and damaging industrial relations.
Urging Tinubu to prioritize economic justice, they stressed that governance should focus on improving livelihoods, not political maneuvering. “Workers’ welfare must come before political realignments,” the statement emphasized.
