During the event, the Zamfara State Commissioner for Environment, represented by Permanent Secretary Lirwanu Musa Zurmi, emphasized the importance of the policy, noting that the state faces issues like erosion, deforestation, and land degradation. He highlighted that the ILM policy aims to tackle challenges such as poverty, low literacy, weak institutions, climate risks, and poor farming productivity.
Nasiruddeen Bello, the ACReSAL Project Coordinator for Zamfara State, represented by Akilu Mayana, explained that the workshop aimed to build institutional capacity and develop strategies for implementing the policy effectively. A consultant, Murtala Yusuf, presented details on the ILM vision, mission, and action plan, drawing from experiences in other states. He also discussed monitoring and evaluation methods for the policy.
The workshop brought together representatives from various government agencies, ministries, and stakeholders across Zamfara State.
