Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa announced the decision, framing it as a strategic effort to modernize Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and prepare them for global challenges. TERAS, initially developed for public universities and colleges, offers cutting-edge digital tools for teaching, research, and institutional management. By extending access to private schools, the government aims to foster collaboration, improve resource efficiency, and elevate the overall quality of education.
“Progress in education cannot happen in isolation,” Dr. Alausa emphasized. “Bringing private institutions into TERAS ensures that Nigeria’s entire education ecosystem grows stronger together.” He highlighted that the platform provides reliable connectivity, standardized quality assurance, and data-driven solutions to help schools optimize performance.
The initiative, supported by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is expected to enhance research capabilities, reduce operational costs, and position Nigerian institutions as global contenders in digital education. Private universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education interested in joining TERAS are encouraged to submit formal applications through the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
This expansion underscores the government’s commitment to inclusivity and innovation, ensuring that all students—regardless of whether they attend public or private institutions—benefit from advanced digital learning opportunities.
