During the official handover ceremony on Wednesday, UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Aisha Garba, hailed the project as a transformative achievement in the quest to elevate basic education as a driving force for national progress. The facility, funded with substantial investment, is now under the management of the Jigawa State Government.
The Hadejia Smart School is a showcase of innovation, featuring digitally equipped classrooms, state-of-the-art science labs, e-libraries, robotics centers, and specialized facilities for students with disabilities. This model institution sets a new benchmark for public education, blending modern infrastructure with inclusive design.
With this addition, Nigeria now boasts 30 UBEC Smart Schools nationwide, alongside other model institutions distributed across all six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.
Dr. Garba emphasized that the Smart School Programme is a cornerstone of educational reform, aimed at overhauling traditional teaching methods through technology, upgraded facilities, and creative pedagogy. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision to provide equitable, high-quality education tailored to the demands of the future.
“This initiative is about rewriting the story of learning in public schools,” she stated, noting that these schools serve as prototypes for states to emulate. The Hadejia school, designated as a State Model Smart School (Model II), accommodates early childhood, primary, and junior secondary students, including those with special needs.
The campus is a self-contained hub for holistic education, featuring smart classrooms, science and vocational labs, health services, recreational spaces, and reliable utilities—all within a safe, child-centered environment.
Dr. Garba extended gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa and Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, for championing the smart education agenda. She also praised the Jigawa State Government, particularly Governor Malam Umar Namadi, for their proactive collaboration—from land provision to security and logistical support—reflecting a shared determination to enhance educational access and quality.
