Falana made this statement while speaking at the 2025 National Conference of Egbe Amofin Oodua in Abeokuta, where he criticized the governance and infrastructural decay in the Southwest region.
He particularly faulted Governor Seyi Makinde's decision to spend N63 billion on rehabilitating the Government House, describing it as reckless spending of public funds that could have been better utilized for infrastructural development.
Falana also expressed concern about the growing poverty and lack of investment in education and infrastructure in the Southwest region. He urged lawyers to hold political leaders accountable and ensure that they prioritize the needs of the people.
The human rights lawyer emphasized the need for good governance, transparency, and accountability in the region, warning that the Southwest may continue to retrogress unless its leaders make a change.
Falana's remarks were echoed by former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Chief Akin Olujinmi, SAN, who urged lawyers to continue upholding the rule of law and advancing justice, fairness, and equity in the region.
