Maaji explained that the reduction was calculated by comparing crash data from 2024 and 2025, showing a clear decline by December of last year. He credited the positive trend to the FRSC’s grassroots campaigns, which relied heavily on media outreach to educate communities about traffic rules and safe driving practices.
The commander also appealed to journalists and other professionals to join the FRSC’s Special Marshals program, emphasizing that their involvement would strengthen enforcement and emergency response efforts. He pointed out that media personnel, in particular, could help bridge the gap between the public and the FRSC by fostering trust and spreading critical safety messages.
However, Maaji raised concerns about the vandalism of road signs and urged residents to protect these vital safety tools. On their part, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), represented by Chairman Ibrahim Maizare, pledged ongoing support for the FRSC’s initiatives, praising the commander’s collaborative approach with the press.
The meeting underscored the importance of partnerships between safety agencies and the media in saving lives on Zamfara’s roads.
